Striving to create a quieter world, Lios means a safe haven from harmful noise. We use advanced technology to eliminate noise pollution in our modern world. The Lios team created SoundBounce – a breakthrough acoustic material which realises the core mission of the founders.
Lios, formerly Restored Hearing, was founded in 2009 by Rhona Togher and Eimear O’Carroll. Over a decade, the business has grown to foster a spirit of innovation and a passion for developing real world solutions for acoustic problems. The team has expanded to include experts in material science, acoustics, licensing, design, and predictive modelling.
Founders
Co-founders Rhona Togher & Eimear O’Carroll have worked together for over 15 years. They founded Lios (formerly Restored Hearing) in 2009 to create technologies to enable a quieter world. Togher and O’Carroll have long been frustrated with the lack of innovation in the traditional materials sector as this stagnant t field is struggling to keep up with the technical challenges of today.
Originally trained as physicists, the pair have applied their knowledge of physics to a range of challenges, creating elegant and practical solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges.
Both founders suffered from tinnitus at a young age, which led them to investigate the condition and develop their first product, SoundRelief – a tinnitus sound therapy. Building on this successful experience of bringing a new product to market, they invented SoundBounce; filing patents and securing funding to advance the technology from concept to prototype product. Since then, the business has grown through successful customer pilots, commercial and technical partnerships, greater investment, and an expanded team of passionate experts.
