Our world is becoming more technologically advanced, and traditional materials are struggling to keep up with the challenges of today.  Transport, home appliances, power generation, and construction are among the major industries responding to demands from regulation and consumers to reduce noise levels. 

Existing materials like foam, stone wool, and vinyl fail to meet these requirements. These materials are often heavy, harmful to the environment, and can limit the design and size of innovative new technologies. 

SoundBounce is our solution - an acoustic metamaterial with superior sound dampening capabilities. It is thinner and can be deployed in any operational environment. SoundBounce has a major advantage as it is an adaptable system. This allows for integration into a broad range of products, components, and multifunctional materials.

Product designers are enabled to create smaller, lighter products with substantially reduced noise outputs. This is critical in the construction, automotive, power generation and aerospace sectors where space is at a premium.

Current acoustic and vibration materials in aerospace are very thick due to the high levels of low frequency noise generated at the launch and separation stages of space flight. This reduces the space available for the payload, or cargo, of the shuttle. The payload is often sensitive to vibrations, for example satellites and delicate instrumentation, and risks getting damaged during transportation.

Using SoundBounce as an acoustic protection material has the potential to change the industry in terms of larger payloads and lower cost per payload.

Lios is continuing to work with the European Space Agency to develop and test new acoustic components for inclusion in future launch vehicles during a 18 month Phase 2 Future Launchers Preparatory Programme project.
