Lios 2022 Year in Review
It has been a truly exciting year for our company and team, and as we look back on the year, there are a few highlights we are particularly proud of.
After the challenging times of the past two years, we were thrilled to be able to attend a number of events and conferences again in person. It was great to reconnect with our industry peers and partners, and to share our latest developments and innovations. Some events we attended this year include Industry Space Days by ESA, Tech Tour RawMaterials Venture Forum, and JECWorld.
We also had some great media coverage this year from our friends at JEC, Cordis EU and Silicon Republic. Our CTO Eimear, featured on the Cord podcast, discussing the importance of teamwork and aligning work with your personal goals and values.
We successfully completed our European Commission H2020 funded project and first ESA contract. These projects were key milestones for us, and we are proud of our team's hard work and dedication to making them a success. We also expanded our team this year, welcoming several new members and are excited to continue to grow in the coming year.
This year, we doubled down on sustainability and we are determined to make a positive impact on the environment. As we move towards pilot production, we are developing sustainable products and solutions to help our clients reduce their environmental footprint. We are excited to continue our journey towards a more sustainable future and encourage others to join us in this important mission. Market leaders in automotive and building materials are taking the first steps towards a more sustainable acoustic future by working with us to integrate SoundBounce into their products. This year we helped them reduce their noise pollution through our joint development projects.
We also won some awards along the way!
A major highlight was winning SheLovesTech, a prestigious global competition for female-led technology startups. Our CEO, Rhona Togher, pitched at the event in Singapore and showcased our innovative technology, SoundBounce, to a panel of industry experts and investors.
The win was a testament to our team's commitment to making the world a quieter place, and we were thrilled to receive recognition for our efforts. The experience of attending the event in Singapore was invaluable, as it allowed us to network with other successful women in the tech industry and learn about their positive impact, fantastic innovations and businesses.
In addition to winning SheLovesTech, we were also a finalist in the Ocean Exchange, an annual event held in Miami that recognises innovation in important environmental challenges. Our team was proud to be a part of this event and to have the opportunity to share our work on stopping noise pollution in our oceans.
Noise pollution is a growing problem in the ocean, as human activities such as shipping, drilling, and construction generate loud sounds that can disturb marine life and cause harm to aquatic ecosystems. Our team has been working on innovative solutions to this problem; working with the shipping industry to reduce the noise generated. There are many ways to improve shipping noise, from the smallest component, up to lining the hull of a ship. The benefits of reducing marine noise for sealife is immeasurable – a thriving ecosystem benefits our food supply, carbon reduction and biodiversity.
This year, we wanted to show how SoundBounce works and where it is being applied in industry. The new SoundBounce video expands on our first video, which explained how SoundBounce works. This latest video discusses the industries we work with, their noise challenges, and how SoundBounce can solve these problems with powerful energy-absorbing materials never before used in acoustics and vibration.
We also developed a short educational video for SoundRelief that teaches viewers how to use our sound therapy app. The SoundRelief app puts scientifically proven sound therapy and tinnitus tracking in your pocket. Find our sound therapy on the Google play store or the Apple app store.
We joined a partnership with the UK Hearing Conservation Association (HCA). Who, like us, are passionate about preserving and promoting the protection of our hearing health.
We ended our year on a high in Brussels, celebrating the conclusion of our European Commission funded project, TANDEM. The funding for TANDEM enabled us to scale our team and operations, advance our Technology Readiness Level, and bring SoundBounce to industry partners all over the world.
It has been a successful year for Lios, and we look forward to continued growth and success in the year to come. A huge thanks to our customers, partners, and team for their support and contributions this year.
We are excited about the opportunities and challenges that 2023 will bring! We also plan to continue to expand our team. See our Careers page to join us in disrupting the materials industry, and in making the world a quieter place.
